It works if you’re at the end of your career or have a family. If you are trying to grow your skills, or are a young professional, look elsewhere. They seem to think being able to attend any conference you want is sufficient for professional growth, but last I checked no one said they knew how to do a particular task because they went to a conference session on it. They also have absolutely no interest in doing things about ineffective managers and general inefficiencies. Processes are dated and slow and do nothing to actually grow employees skills and don’t even serve the members that well. Leadership likes to talk about how they are consistently rated as one of the best places to work in DC, but younger employees, when surveyed, consistently rate the place poorly. Senior management should be examples to learn from, but instead I’ve learned a lot about what not to do. Their HR is also horrible and does not care about the employees well being at all. They simply exist to protect the company’s interests.

Culture is risk averse, bureaucratic, and you have to be liked by the CEO or you’re out
