Pros

Its social mission, based on founder Ethel Percy Andrus' motto that "what we do, we do for all." The organization's insistence on excellence. The caliber of the people that work at AARP. The truly excellent benefits and compensation package offered full-time employees.

Cons

The bureaucratic red tape that slows everything down. The often seeming inconsistency between certain values or objectives that are said to be priorities and the resources granted to achieve these "priorities". The over reliance on contractors and consultants for ongoing work that clearly should be handled by in-house full time staff employees.

Pros

Great benefits, location, social mission and passionate employees.

Cons

Management doesn't take operations into account in decision-making; competing strategies cause conflict; promotions not always based on the ability to be "people-managers" or other appropriate skills.
