IT needs work

Pros

Laid back environment, lots of time off.

Cons

IT has poor structure. IT is fragmented into several different depts which makes it difficult to know who to contact (the dept. that is called IT? The dept. that is called IRT? The dept. called LELA? who do I contact?!?!!?). If you contact the wrong dept. you rarely get sent to someone that can actually help you. The dept that is actually called IT is the most helpful and seem to be the most knowledgeable. From what I hear most of the IT folks don't share their knowledge and it ends up being select pockets of people who know how things are set up (no going to someone else if you can't get along with one person). In addition to that HR will not allow you to get a pay increase if you further your education or get certifications. There are no real raises at ACC after you are hired (aside from blanket "cost of living" increases or "market studies"). This causes everyone with the same title to be paid EXACTLY the same. I was told I could quit and apply for the job I just quit from and I would get paid more. WHY?!?!?! That is so stupid. HR is typically the punching bag but in this case they deserve it.

Pros

I love teaching and I've been an English and Business Writing professor for eleven years. Since I have a great love for the English language, I take great pleasure when I witness a student begin to see how important language and communication are. Even better, I learn from the students as well.

Cons

Since I'm adjunct faculty, I don't teach full-time. Therefore, I don't make the salary I need to sustain my family. I live in Fredericksburg, so I'm unable to take on as many classes as I would were I to live in Austin.

Pros

Good work and life balance. Good mid level leadership who adjust to styles to better motivate people. Would recommend as a workplace.

Cons

Not much room for upwards movement. Some employees seem a little unmotivated and simply go through the motions. Talent level often seems a little low.
