Pros

Great staff with lots of diverse experience. Opportunities to link into projects around the world if you are good at networking and persistent. Could be an amazing company in which to work if management could embrace a more collaborative management system and dispense with some of the tedious bureaucracy.

Cons

Senior managers are engineers with little or no management training. Important management decisions are made haphazardly and poorly communicated. Egos are allowed to dominate important corporate decisions. Many senior managers are afraid to make important decisions and therefore do not make those decisions in a timely manner. Far too much bureaucracy - getting approval to attend a conference or get a plane ticket to visit a client can be a nightmare, resulting in many missed opportunities for the corporation. Good people are getting frustrated with the bureaucracy and poor management and leaving.

Pros

Working at AECOM is great as it is truly a global company. Multi million dollar projects are won and its tasks are shared globally. This allows employees to have international experience and is great for career development.

Cons

It is easy to feel lost in the vastness of AECOM as it a multi-disciplinary company with offices in almost every region in the world.

A great place to work but may depend on location

Pros

Varied work experience, nice people, occasional stretch assignments, competitive compensation, good intercompany website, webinars and training, support for professional licenses, good sales & marketing to Fortune level companies, international opportunities abound, good upper management teams.

Cons

The following are not really cons, just reactions to business climate. Currently undergoing integration of many recent acquisitions, ENSR, RETEC, Earthtech, and others which has temporary challenges - but going pretty good. If you are in an office that is moving and changing the career advancement can be rapid, but if in a smaller or less active office it can seem slow. Recent economics has meant a few layoffs, and more emphasis on being billable. Since AECOM is a publically traded company, managers seem to have more pressure to hit home runs at the end of each month and quarter as compared to the legacy companies – just seems more aggressive and less forgiving than before acquisitions (less fun). Cash bonuses can seem small and discretionary.
