Pros

It used to be If you work hard, create opportunities for your self, and can navigate big company politics you will be promoted and rewarded. They didn't pay the best but people loved to work there. This didn't even change during the crisis.

Cons

The working environment slowly became intolerable the last few years. They now pay better than ever and everyone is unhappy. Constant lay offs and reorgs. No job is safe there anymore. Demeaning review practices. Need to be cut throat to succeed.

Pros

They pay well if you can cut a good deal up front but once you're in all bets are off.

Cons

They will drain your soul and crush your spirit and then drop you like you never existed. I have never, in my thirty years in the industry, witnessed such a lack of loyalty and appreciation.

Very Unethical company

Pros

Theoretical limitless income potential. Ability to set your own schedule.

Cons

Many pointless meetings with management. The sales mentality is back in the '80's. Very narrow minded in their financial products, they push annuities above all else even with the new limitations by finra on annuity sales! They expect you to "find a way" to make your compliance sheet "justify" an overload of annuities in the clients portfolio. If you are terminated, they try to force you out rather than pay unemployment benefits. The managers get a "reward" if they dont fire and force you to quit. Clients are very unhappy with VALIC so its an uphill battle to write new business within your book which is where they want you to focus.
