Pros

Notoriety and reputation brings some of the best talent onboard. In my 20+ year career (5 at AIG), I've learned that you can teach an old dog new tricks - as long as you're on the right team.

Cons

Old school mentality within senior leadership. Not flexible with work from home, although they tout this as one of their main perks. Haven't had a raise since I started even with solid performance reviews every year, but the cost of living and commuting to Wall Street has increased. Won't pay for my certification upkeep or any new certification even when directly related to my job - states no budget but leadership still seems to have enough money to host offsite sessions around the world. And bonuses? Lets just say that favorites or people who are connected seem to get the biggest piece of the pie.

Pros

Extremely supportive work environment. Challenging work, and very smart, innovative go-workers always look at how to improve. People are generally open, direct and very helpful. I have an incredible manager - best in my career and I see that all the way up my chain of management. So many ways to meet people - through Employee Resource Groups, to Employee Volunteer and community outreach groups - and at our location, we have Toastmasters and "hidden hobbies" at lunch. Very happy with my job.

Cons

It is large so you have to be very pro-active about getting involved - but there are lots of opportunities that cross business groups. There is still segmentation between the claims groups and the underwriting groups that could be improved. Some combined team building activities would be helpful.
