HR Department is a Mess

Pros

- benefits - located right above the subway

Cons

HR is run led by a group on individuals who do not understand what it means to be people leaders, where decisions are made on a whim having no regard for the impact on those in the department. HR is in a constant state of change, not because they are building a “leading edge” department, but because leadership constantly changes direction on strategy after the fact, wasting everyone’s time and creating inefficiencies. Good people are leaving because of poor leadership and nothing is being done to change it. Do not be fooled by the “best employer” awards and “most admired culture”, the work environment in HR is anything BUT that. There is no flexible work environment as there is a need to micro manage and keep tabs on employees at all times, having a differing opinion means likely getting fired as a result of the bully culture that has been created by the leader of the dept, and forget about having work-life balance as you will be expected to be available at all hours. Advice - if you value your career, do not accept a job here

Pros

Decent sized organization with promising revenue, organized processes and policies, good training, fair compensation package, fun company perks, transportation subsidies

Cons

There is extremely high turnover (mostly unwarranted terminations) that happen across the entire business in every department including HR. Certain teams within HR have had almost 100% turnover within the last year . If the problem happens in HR itself, it is bound to happen in all other departments and this is caused by an HR leadership team that have zero concept of employee relations or performance management. The organization generates a lot of revenue and money is constantly being thrown away because upper management does not want to take the time to grow and develop talent or manage their performance. It is easier for a manager to terminate and hire somebody else (and this is probably advice given from HR). Talent Acquisition and HR leaders will never support their own recruiters and are bound by the phrase "the client is always right" or "senior leader is always right". There is a lot of corruption and you cannot trust or confide in anybody within your own department. HR and talent acquisition senior "leaders" abuse their power and treat their own team poorly.

Pros

Opportunity to learn some of the tech that drives marketing for Airmiles

Cons

1. CTO yells and is condescending when you dont agree with his views. 2. Executive team around him a bunch of "yes" men who hypocritically do whatever they need to do to save their own necks and not what is in the best interest of those who they are to lead 3. Execs sit in a room and come up with the strangest and weirdest initiatives for weeks on end, then when they decide to be "transparent" it leaves workers more confused than before 4. Interview process has turned into a caste system where execs who are out of touch with the tech needs of the company lead interviews disrespectfully ignoring the competencies of those who work under them. When they do pick people to run interviews, it nepotisic based pickings based on playing favourites and not a lick based on competence. 5. Full- time / contract whatever the pleasure here, is a place where contractors are now looked at with disdain nevermind the fact that they probably make up quite a large part of this company's competency quota. Full timers get jerked around and demoralized by lack of leadership and clear communication. The term "we" is a myth. Its a "we" situation when it suits them. All in all a place that flourishes due to a lack of competiton in the space. - but that can change at any time...
