Horrible Hours, Bad Benefits

Recommend
CEO approval
Business Outlook

Pros

You get to choose your hours

Cons

The amount of work is extremely variable. Maximum raise is less than 1% (0.8% to be exact) and they say they cannot raise it higher. Dead end job. You get only ~20% of what the students pay but parents expect you to perform at full price level by going above and beyond. The moment you go under 25 work hours (not including admin hours) you lose all benefits. Only reason you should be taking this job would be as a side hustle.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We take all comments seriously as we strive to provide a positive and supportive work environment. We’d like to clarify a few points to ensure an accurate understanding of our practices: 1) Performance-Based Raises: We provide yearly performance-based raises, and our compensation structure rewards strong contributions, with rasies generally between 5-15% for high-performing tutors. Our pay rates are competitive and designed to reflect the value our team members bring. 2) Revenue Allocation: On average, tutors receive 30-45% of billing for each billable hour. The remainder supports rent, comprehensive paid training, and administrative compensation to ensure a well-functioning organization. In the Winter of 2024, the average compensation per hour of tutoring for tutors was over $75/hr. 3) Workload Flexibility: The amount of work can vary depending on individual schedules and preferences, and we work with employees to balance workloads and ensure they have the opportunity to succeed. 4) Benefits: Our health care benefits eligibility is tied to maintaining a full-time workload of 30 work hours per week; we find tutors working less than full-time can generally have more affordable coverage through Covered California. We communicate clearly about these requirements during the onboarding process. We’re always open to improving and encourage both current and former employees to reach out directly with constructive feedback. Thank you for the time you spent with us, and we wish you the best in your future endeavors.
