Pros

Great snack selection, nice office, friendly teammates, managers whom care about your progress. Decent WLB. Could well feel like a 5-star experience as long as you don't rock the boat or ask too many questions. Management frame firings in a merciful way, so you could be gleefully unaware of office politics.

Cons

Insidious office politics. You hear about people getting called into an office, leave, and never come back. They are given no indication where or even if they need to improve; HR comes up with an excuse. Management responds poorly to unpleasant feedback -- they send mixed messages, some of which are false, then it becomes clear you are disposable. I don't know if turnover rate is higher than other places, but it sure isn't done in a compassionate or caring way. I can empathize that they are under a lot of pressure because the firm's competitiveness has been slipping and they can't afford to be anything but ruthless, but burning bridges like that should not be normal. I'm still in contact with people there, and it seems to have gotten worse in 2020. To potential and current employees: be very, very cautious and keep your guard up. Think twice about joining if ethics or security are a priority. Have an exit strategy but act otherwise, because management is under a lot of pressure and you don't want that pressure directed towards you. Keep any concerns not directly related to your work responsibilities to yourself.

Experienced Employees are Trash to them.

Pros

Certain teams are good to be in. Reasonable WFH policy. Still has some smart people around, despite growing number of resignations.

Cons

Senior management has serious issues. Does not value the mid-level employees, which do the bulk of the work, applies to all departments, Devs, Quant, Trading. They rather hire fresh juniors for higher compensation than keeping current employees happy, despite juniors being trained by current employees. CEO doesn't know what he's doing, fires 4 CTOs within 2 years, tried to become CTO himself despite having little understanding of the development side. Implements policies after reading a book, leading to bureaucratic clutter that does not solve underlying issues. Morale across almost all departments and teams very low. Next year's bonus will make or break this company, coming mass exodus of mid-levels if bonus expectations aren't met, especially after how trash the bonus this year was due to improper company management. Resignations already slowly happening across the Dev and Quant teams despite a banner year across trading firms. No base salary during non-compete mentioned below is true. Penny-pinching in the wrong places. Disregard a lot of the blatantly positive reviews below, many from HR and recruiting department, or recruiting asking people to post positive reviews. Large number of recent negative reviews from both current and former employees paint an accurate picture of where this company is at.

Quants stay away

Pros

Little work to do if you know tricks to please the upper management.

Cons

100% trader driven environment. No systematic strategies by industry standards. So-called automated trading is a propaganda to fool junior people and candidates. Projects are created to fetch resources and fuel political fights. Devs are mobilized for developing barely tested strategies. Everything is promising but nothing is working. Claimed to be cooperative but effectively silo. Deteriorating transparency and suppressing bad news. You will find people and teams disappeared for no reason if periodically checking the name list of employee. Pay is probably acceptable for your first year (if you can't get any offer from other firms) but will not grow---This is reasonable given the profitability of those "strategies". Stay away if you want to gain any meaningful experience and pursue a quant career.
