Pros

I was put on a good project with lots of opportunities to learn new things and expand my knowledge of engineering. I do think I got lucky though. I got a bonus for exceeding expectations which was nice.

Cons

The business managers are so detached from what the consultants are actually doing. The business managers change a lot as well so it’s hard to touch base and have continuity with your career progression. The pay is pretty bad. Alten hire graduates and sell them as ‘experienced’ engineers. I had no experience in the domain I was put in which was awkward for the managers. It was a sink or swim situation where I had to learn on the job and excel to be seen as useful.

Well-meaning (about 10 individuals) who attempt to create a healthy and enjoyable workplace environment.

Cons

- Top-down French culture. - HQ controls and imposes its ways (despite Canadian and local culture norms) and relies on oversea employees to ensure they maintain control. - They do not respect interview and recruitment discussions: if it’s not explicitly in your contract, you’re not getting what you discussed with the recruiter. They sell you a “driven and flexible Quebec start-up company”. In reality it couldn’t be further from the truth; Distrust, explosive reactions, personal criticism, and gossiping are the main culture.

Good gateway. To start it's a good company, but not for a medium/long run.

Cons

Without good opportunities, immigrants are exploited and convinced to stay on low wages. They have no strategy for professional improvement. They don't care about their clients or their consultants, they only care about their position and the profitability it generates.
