Good for new EMTs

Pros

Most boots on the ground employees are cool, eager to learn, and great to be around. Promote from within. Orientation is a good foundation for new EMTs, though sadly no one really sticks to detailed physical assessments and the like. Easy to sign up for overtime shifts. In a lot of cases, you can pick who you work with. They were working on getting a partially paid paramedic program started. If it started, that's a plus.

Cons

Sometimes strange promote-from-within methodology. New, unexperienced EMTs find themselves as on duty supervisor just for the fact they're buddy-buddy with management. It is not based on work-ethic or actual ability to do well in the role. Some management has double standards for the people they like. They don't have to wear uniform. They can wear a t-shirt when it's 90 degrees. You still have to wear the polo.

Terrible management

Pros

pay can at times be worth it, however management and co-workers can question this pro

Cons

Management at times, co workers, units are in disrepair and missing supplies, which can get you in trouble. Management will force you on the road with missing supplies even after you make them aware, and when you get in trouble with the city, management will then blame you for leaving without the supplies they forced you to leave without
