Pros

AOPA is a well known resource in the general aviation community - 'everyone knows who AOPA is'. There is great opportunity for growth and learning! They advocate for personal growth within the company and give opportunities and encourage things like seminar, additional training, etc. The benefits are great - and most importantly they believe (and understand) the value in a work and family life balance.

Cons

You have to work hard to be seen - but if committed, you will be seen.

AOPA is about passion, not money.

Pros

If you’re an aviation enthusiast, what better place to work? Your part of a team that supports a hobby that society has allowed to become antiquated. If you’re a GA devotee, this is the place to support the cause and leave a mark. Plus, AOPA promotes the use of GA aircraft for business travel, and offers a significant amount of funds to encourage your flight proficiency.

Cons

If you’re working at AOPA, it’s about the passion not the paycheck. AOPA is below average for the majority of their pay scales, which is a challenge with respect to the cost of living in MD.

Pros

Strong focus on work / life balance. Excellent benefits package. The people are smart and great to work with. If you love aviation, it's a fantastic place to work. Perks include: health club membership dues covered up to $45/month (reimbursed quarterly if minimum monthly visits attained); education reimbursement up to $5,000/year (pre-approved); free coffee; bring your pet to work; subsidized lunches from catering company; learn to fly for free!

Cons

Limited upward mobility. No real career track in most departments. Salaries are good for Frederick County, but way behind Montgomery and Baltimore Counties. Big appetite for wanting to be world class without the funding to support it. Not all departments are given the same level of support/resources.
