Pros

Lots of good people working here, and a clean work environment

Cons

Awful management and poor organization, priorities are always changing. It is like trying to hit a moving target with your eyes closed.

Thanks for the review. I appreciate that you recognized the good people and the clean work environment. We try our best to give all of our employees a clean and safe place to work. As you know, ASC manufactures autoclaves, ovens, and control systems for the aerospace market. Building custom equipment like this is not easy, especially in an anti-business climate of southern California. It is certainly not a straight-forward think like building widgets in a factory. As such, our schedules are tight, planning is not exact, and most projects are difficult to complete. For those not accustomed to "going with the flow", the work here can sometimes seem chaotic, with priorities often changing depending on which project and which customer needs their equipment first. It does mean that you might be switched between jobs without much notice, and that can feel unbalanced. You mention "trying to hit a moving target with your eyes closed". You're not that far off. From week to week, our customers often hit us blindly with their own changing expectations, and as a result we have to change our planning and work efforts to try to make that a reality. You obviously thought that this "chaos" was random and the result of bad management, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. Our actions are based on thoughtful discussions and attempts to "steer the ship" in the correct direction for our customers. Think of it this way: a ship's captain is trying to negotiate stormy seas - the chaos of turning left, and then right, and then left again is actually the result of experience and smart changes to deal with difficult path. ASC managers are that ship captain, and have to constantly negotiate some pretty stormy seas. Fortunately, as the best autoclave manufacturer in the US, we're still doing things correctly. I'm sorry you didn't see it that way. Good luck with your future career.

Insulting

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

The office and shop is nice, and kept clean. There are also a lot of nice people that work here. I've worked for a mom and pop company in the past, and at least here the paycheck is good when you take it to the bank.

Cons

I've never worked someplace that insulted my education and experience in my life. Been here a while now and like most here, I'm looking for another place to work. Working here is like trying to shoot an unpredictable moving target. An employee here can be a scapegoat at anytime for errors made by others that should now better.

Thanks you for your comment. I'm not sure what exactly someone said to insult your educaton or experience, but I suspect that it was not done intentionally to insult you. What I can say is that ASC tries to respect all employees equally, regardless of the level of education or experience you bring to your job. Once an employee takes a job at ASC, they will be judged not on their past educational or job accomplishments but on the level of performance and character they bring to the job everyday. Sometimes, employees who hold higher degrees and have lots of experience feel that they are entitled to a higher level of respect than those with less of a degree or education. ASC does not see it this way. We believe that education and experience provide the foundation for you to achieve higher performance, but that respect comes from the day-to-day interactions and professionalism you bring to your job. Thanks again for your comment.

Thanks for the review. I'm sorry that your employment at our company didn't work out for you. I would like to correct a few items for the record. ASC does, in fact, have a yearly end-of-year monetary gift to employees based on their performance, company profit, and other factors. The amount can range from a couple hundred dollars to over ten thousand dollars depending on the employees position, their performance, and their contribution to ASC's success that year. As an engineer, you would have certainly received this, but maybe you forgot. As for engineering salaries, ASC salaries are commensurate and often higher than those offered at similar manufacturing firms in the greater Los Angeles area. Lastly, work-life balance is important to ASC and as such we allow salaried employees reasonable flexibility in their start times and work day duration. There is no fixed start time. Some engineers choose to work 40 hrs per week while others work more hours based on their own, independent decisions. Best of luck to you in your pursuits.
