Pros

Time flexibility - work when you want, with manager's approval and understanding. Ability to pick up as much responsibility as you want. Small, tight groups. Good sense of teamwork. Smart and hardworking people.

Cons

Constantly behind competitors, and in perennial catch-up and fire-extinguishing mode. Systems and documentations need to be standardized. Focus is niche, and company lacks comprehensive view of the industry.

Pros

You may be able to make good friends with some nice people around. However, this depends on the group you are in and projects you are working on.

Cons

Without any lab technician, you gonna do EVERYTHING yourself. Even during COVID-19 pandemic, you will come onsite every single day and work in very crowded lab. With people come and go so frequently, you gonna work on multiple projects and people will always put more workload on you. Poor lab layout will drive you nuts. Metrology room crowded and noisy level > 80db. You will be crazy if you work inside for long. Lack of metrology equipment. People fight for metrology tooltime all the time. Poor management. Upper management tends to blame bottom level engineer for everything, even including procurement. Micromanagement is common here. You tend to have many bosses and they will point you to different directions. Poor Work-Life Balance. Weekend is treated as normal operating days.
