Pros

There is still free coffee here for employees! . . . 3 different hot varieties (plus a decaf) along with a cold nitro brew on tap. Still also plenty of free snacks stocked in the kitchens as well. The holiday party is shifting to a less formal version. Yes, the free coffee tab at a local coffee house is going away, along with the chair massage perk, but I still feel ridiculously privileged to work in this environment. I'm not an engineer here so can't speak to the work load that is being asked of those teams.

Cons

Change is definitely happening as we are no longer a start-up and continue to integrate into Amazon Web Services systems.

Slowly erosion of culture and benefits

Pros

There are some incredibly smart people who work here.

Cons

Slowly I have been asked to work more and more. Nights, weekends, with no real end in sight. Management is absolute chaos. Engineering launched several services last year and worked really hard to support huge streaming events and the company is still getting rid of anything nice they provided for employees: free coffee, massages, snacks, the holiday party, on and on... This company does not care about retaining you. Ever since the acquisition, and especially since Sam Blackman died this company has become less of a Portland start up and more of yet another arm of Amazon.

Pros

Excellent benefits Challenging work Capable and collaborative Best technologists High caliber, high performing employees AWS ownership Not a bro culture Beautiful facility in the heart of downtown Portland Working on the cutting edge of the video industry Good opportunities for career growth Values community investment and giving back

Cons

Intense work environment -- not for everybody, only high achievers Be strong in maintaining work / life balance. Hours can be long Sometimes it's too cold in the office
