Pros

The core technology is interesting. Most of the regular ICs are super friendly. If you are interested in ML this is definitely a place for that.

Cons

CTO has the inability to work with anyone that disagrees with him Massive micromanaging in engineering and a massive disconnect between the number of product engineers and the companies product ambitions. Technical leadership has no platform vision and everything is hacked together. If you didn’t work at TellApart or Twitter don’t expect to last long if you have any sort of opinions on roadmaps. Long term company vision makes no sense and is constantly changing. No willingness to actually try to do things differently. Relentless criticism and pressure from customer facing teams. Consistent negative feedback loop. Benefits are below industry average and the company retroactively changes employee compensation programs. Just don’t work here. You will be overworked, underpaid, and completely and utterly under appreciated.

Hi there, Thanks so much for leaving an honest review—we truly value your feedback. We’re sorry we didn’t get it right. As a swiftly-growing startup, we’re working hard to scale and iterate, which can lead to rapid updates and changes in our roadmap. We recognize this does not come without challenges and frustrations. We’re actively working on upleveling our recruiters and investing in leadership development to support our rapid growth—especially on the engineering team—in a more sustainable way. We’re also committed to developing a better company-wide listening strategy and optimizing the ways we collect employee feedback so we are better equipped to address these concerns as they arise.

Pros

Competitive base pay Bonus program Values driven culture With so many people leaving, lots of good opportunities! In the lower ranks of the company you will find some of the truly smartest and nicest people you’ll ever have the pleasure of working with

Cons

The micromanagement by the founders is the worst I’ve ever seen in all my years working in startups. We hire the best and the brightest but then they get demoralized and leave after the founders over-rule them on everything. Very inexperienced upper management and it shows. The company only has ONE product. Those at the top (including exec-1s) are least likely to exhibit our values. The company has no long term strategy, but yet mgmt talks how Abnormal going to be the greatest cyber security firm ever. Inconsistent expense policies. Unless you came from Twitter, don’t bother applying to the technical teams. The place is a sweatshop, even by startup standards. The CEO’s involvement in all hiring decisions costs us great employees. Some of the lowest equity grants in the history of tech. If you’re looking to join a place with a lot of upside beyond your base and minuscule bonus, then don’t bother applying here.

Hey there, Thanks so much for leaving an honest review—we truly value your feedback. We’re sorry we didn’t get it right. As a rapidly-growing startup, we’re working hard to scale and iterate, and this can create rapidly shifting priorities. We recognize this does not come without challenges and frustrations. Our leadership team understands that hiring top talent is synonymous with success. In a high-growth startup, it’s sometimes hard to strike the right balance during the hiring process. We’re actively working on upleveling the recruiting team and investing in leadership development to support our rapid growth in a more sustainable way. We’re also committed to developing a better company-wide listening strategy and optimizing the ways we collect employee feedback so we are better equipped to address these concerns as they arise.

Pros

- Ambitious growth goals - Great product - Solid executive leadership - Flat, non-hierarchical orgs

Cons

- In-person team meetings eliminated for 3 consecutive quarters - shows where budget priorities lie. - Different working experience on the coasts (NYC, SF have offices with resources, other locations don't have any critical mass or office). - Best fit for people who want a totally virtual company

Hi there, Thanks so much for leaving an honest review—we truly value your feedback. We are doing our best to be good stewards of our resources right now given the macroeconomic circumstances we’re in by trying to strike the right balance between our in-person and virtual events. We understand it’s frustrating to not be able to meet with coworkers in-person, and we are committed to creating a sustainable, lasting, and engaging remote-first experience that fosters genuine connection no matter where in the world our people are located.
