Need to learn people are assets not expenses

Pros

The people in my division are highly talented and great to work with. We build fantastic products and have a great customer base.

Cons

Activant does not value their employees and seems to lack the understanding that keeping their most valuable assets energized and excited will ultimately make them a much more successful company. Leadership is very short term focused.... decisions seem to be made thinking only about how to save a buck today and the ultimate cost of the future.

Pros

Long time friendships with fellow employees and good relationships with the current client base

Cons

Lack of competent upper level management. Management has good intentions but are never able to implement the processes and in fact need to hire outside consulting firms to complete the tasks. Examples being the employee survey completed mid 2008. We have had only one report on the results and no follow thru on plans for implementing any of the suggestions for improving employee morale. 3-10 year growth plan had to be outsourced to outsourced to a third party. Every aspect of the company is sales driven.

Inconsistent messages and directions from upper management

Pros

Treats managers well, employees a fantastic customer service team who are extremely dedicated to making the customer satisfied.

Cons

Loves to downsize anytime quarterly targets are missed. Loves to change bonus plan rules on the fly. All customer service teams are overworked and underpaid. Normally I would not use generic blanket statements like that, but in this case, it is certainly true.
