Pros

We get to make up our day how we want for the most part. Flexible schedule when it is needed. Great work life balance. Depending on your manager you will be able to work on what you want. There is an understanding for your learning curve. Great benefits! Helpful team members. Remote work is such a perk.

Cons

Our pay isn't very high and there isn't much growth opportunity in the department. Some managers will micromanage your daily work. Everything is strictly based on productivity with no wiggle room. Most managers don't even know how the percentages are figured out. Most feel underappreciated as the services area doesn't get nearly as many perks or fun things as other departments. We are expected to complete so much but then get told we need to do more.

Pros

Excellent training. Teammates care to help you when you have questions. Good pay. Great benefits. Acuity makes lots of plans for employees to enjoy activities for team building.

Cons

Workload management is not ideal. You may be swamped one month and then have little to do the next. It seems that for more senior folks, work life balance and mental health begins to suffer. Some who are brave will request to lower their workload when stress becomes too much, but generally if you are 'able' to handle the work - you are expected to perform at this high level regardless of how many nights you are staying late to work or how many lunch breaks skipped, many even put in weekend hours... (notice that even though many opt to work in the office, very few actually sit down for lunch and use the lunch tables?? We have no time!). Higher ups will brag about how underwriters manage a larger territory than average uw in industry, but shrug shoulders when people say they have too much to handle.. 'Productivity' is tracked but they won't even bother to tell you how this is measured - even higher up managers don't seem to know, it's just something plugged into a system and a number magically pops out, and causes anxiety for many. Upper management tells you to "take the time to have coffee with a friend" while not realizing the immense workloads do not allow time for this especially for senior employees.

Incredible Employer

Pros

Compensation is very fair with regular market studies completed to ensure pay scale is aligned with the position and the industry, 401k program is one of (if not the) best in the nation, work form home or hybrid option for most positions, incredible leadership, 27,000 sq. ft. fitness center with a separate full-size gymnasium with three multi-purpose courts, indoor climbing wall, endless other perks...

Cons

Honestly, none. Probably sounds hard to believe, but I firmly believe Acuity is the best employer in the nation.
