Pros

It was nice working first shift knowing what had to be done on a day in day out basis. The pay was not terrible for what it was ($12 per Hour). The staffing agency was very up front about the chances of being hired (slim) by any of the companies they were supplying with workers. You also know what your shift is on a day in day out basis (8 1/2 Hours for 1st and 2nd Shifts).

Cons

-Low Pay (certainly not bad for a Temporary Hire position, but not enough to live on) -No real chance for advancement/being hired by the Organizations they staff for. -During the first year, you are only authorized two vacation days.

Pros

Let me begin with this - this is a great entry-level job. They will give you tools, the resources and trained mentors to help you grow in aspects of customer service, recruiting and business acumen. However, it is after 6 months to a year that you must figure if you are cut out to be a salesperson at this company. If you are not, leave because you can find a better paying job with much less stress that'll provide you with more professional development. One of the pros here is that you don't need to be the hardest worker or the best performer to gain entrance into sales. The company cult[ure] - raw and to the point - is that perception trumps performance. This means showing you can sell the company internally and with flair is your key in getting into with the big boys.

Cons

The biggest con is a lack of control. The difference between having a manager who brings in good business and a manager who doesn't bring good business is the discrepancy betwixt a 50k and a 100k salary. I have seen recruiters work on job orders worth pennies in commission or positions that don't close. When job orders go awry, the recruiters are the ones to blame. It surprises me that many managers don't even understand the company cultures that they are staffing for and this makes it very difficult for recruiters to perform efficiently. Because your manager is the one interfacing with the client, your recruiting efforts is highly impacted by how well your manager understands the client and the relationship your manager has with the client. This makes it hard for the recruiter to grow personally because there is so much conflict of interest. If you want a recruiting gig that is devoid of all of these loose variables, just find a corporate recruiting gig. You can make more money under a lot less stress while actually developing recruiting skills. In terms of promotions, the con is that you can be the best recruiter in the office and still not be deemed promotion-eligible. You not only need to walk the walk, you gotta talk the talk. Whether this aligns with your own self-values is something you have to decide for yourself sooner rather than later.

Pros

The Madison office of Aerotek has several examples of Account Managers making the big bucks, and this is what they sell to every recruiting candidate that walks in the door. A few of them are because they actually have put in the hard work and development to get there... most just happened to have large accounts handed to them from work other people have done. The potential to make $100k+ is seen everyday by people who have made it. Overall, starting pay is not terrible, but they demand a lot of your time.

Cons

First off, every new person starts off as a Recruiter (even though the only crieria for being eligible is having a strong sales background/desire), however the big bucks only come as an Account Manager. If you accept the recruiting offer there a few things you need to know that they leave out: 1) Forget having a personal life, or any life at all (work starts promptly at 7:30am and if you leave before 7:00pm you are shunned). This pretty much rules out anyone with kids/projects/activities going on after 5:00pm... but they also screen for that, targetting new college grads who dont have these restrictions (and who don't know this is NOT how most corporations operate). 2) Don't plan on working there more than 2 years. This is not a career; its a job that some get lucky enough to strike it rich and stay for 5 years. The attrition rate is astronomically high in the Madison office with recruiters coming and going constantly (a very fast revolving door). Recruiters who have been there 6 months are considered "senior recruiters". 3) Don't be surprised if your commission pay is not what they tell you it will be. Most recruiters make between $33k-$40k, with top recruiters making $60k (less than 5% of them). Yes, the potential is there, but the commission structure is EXTREMELY top-heavy. And don't even get me started on the benefits... 4) Promotions are not as promised. During my 1-year tenure with Aerotek there were 3 promotions (one was already a "Account Recruiting Manager", one quit within her first month of being promoted)... far from the promotion promises that told in the interview process. 5) Diversity. If you are over 30, need not apply. If you have children, need not apply. To put it quite simply, if you are not a 22-year-old recent college grad who is good looking enough for the 27-year-old Account Managers who interview you, don't bother applying.
