Pros

Relatively stable and diversified company, up to date with latest technologies

Cons

Salary could be better. Lack of competition in the area keeps salaries down a bit

Pros

Good people to work with, almost everyone is friendly and competent. We have some amazing technologies and excellent products. When we focus on a product and a market, it can be a lot of fun. Work-life balance is fairly good, probably better than at most companies.

Cons

Agilent is bureaucratic and management heavy with a complex reporting structure. The result is often first level managers creating PowerPoint presentations for second level managers to present to third level managers, leaving no time to actually get the job done. Agilent is slowly improving its organization -- we are less bureaucratic now than we were a few years ago, but we still have a ways to go. Layoffs and downsizing are a constant threat, but that is probably the same in any big company today.

Pros

Smart people. You will have a lot of opportunities to learn technical stuffs.

Cons

Poor management from top to bottom. Too many managers after layoffs. A lot of super long-term employees, 25-35 years with the company, who only talk instead of doing anything. Management focus on books, not employee development. Pay is really low for mid-age engineers. Again, too many people has been working here for more than 25 years, and a lot of them were ex-managers, so the only thing they do is networking with each other. Not productive in project management. A new product introduction cycle is 2+ years. Market and sales staff doesn't under the products. They sell products because the products have good data sheet.
