Ahern Rentals - Where your career goes to die

Pros

At this point in time, with the amount of experience I have had with this company, none immediately come to mind.

Cons

Unless you're buddy-buddy with upper management you'll go nowhere. Nepotism is standard practice. The HR handbook you receive is only to be used against you and never to your benefit as an employee. Benefits are a dismal. There is NO PTO ( unless you're salary and then you get paid whether you're there or not) no sick leave of any kind. Morale is in the tank and management ignores it. Yearly reviews as outlined in the employee handbook? No, they don't follow their own guidelines. Vacation pay for hourly employees occurs on your date of hire every year. Why? They know you won't be able to hold onto it and, therefor, can't take a vacation. Work / Life Balance? Only if your work IS your life. Nothing has changed in the 5+ years I've been there. They could do so much better, but simply don't seem interested.

Pros

You get to leave and go home at the end of the day. Easy to work for people with an IQ in the single digits.

Cons

Greedy, dishonest employees and crooked management. Benefits are a joke. All upper management starting with Don Ahern down to shop foremen are all incompetent at best. They will work you to death and just ask for more. No regard for employees or their welfare unless your job title ends in manager. They will tell you whatever you want to hear just to shut you up temporarily until they find a way to stab you in the back. Have personally seen field mechanics written up or fired because of mistakes made by the shop techs or just due to their equipment being mediocre quality at best to begin with "

Pros

Good Colleagues to work with. Weekly paychecks

Cons

No CRM. Other rental companies know about up coming jobs and who is bidding them way before you do. Upper management hardly response to calls or emails. Branch Management does not keep there word. Turn over is high had two branch managers quit in the year I was there. Company does not get you fleet when you need even if you have long term orders or commitments from national customers that they will rent from you if you can come up with the equipment that they need. Company provides no financial stability after a year your pay changes month to month. Commission structure also changes frequently in favor of the company. Also and good luck trying to understand it, management can't even explain it to you. If your looking to get into the rental business find another rental company.

Pros

There are not any but if you are of average intelligence and happen to be in a room with middle and upper management you are most likely the smartest person in the room. If you are a YES man you will do fine. They do treat there employees to a BBQ once a month!!! Makes it all worth it!!!

Cons

The cheap, old and run down company vehicles. The oldest fleet in the industry with bosses that demand an outrageous rate for their freshly painted piece of junk run down equipment. Small crews that are over worked and under paid. Having to deal with the idiots in Vegas.

Pros

The only Pro of this job was the not guaranteed pay.

Cons

There are so many cons of this job especially for the OSR position Extremely Micro Managed, need to send a weekly agenda, followed up by a daily summary followed up by a weekly meeting to go over everything you already went over The company loves watching GPS on your company truck all day. Upper management just as horrible had an issue so I sent an email explaining it and was told that they don’t read e-mails No training just get out there and get accounts opened. Put on probation in the devastating winter of Wisconsin because I wasn’t performing to managements liking on getting accounts open. I can say that this was the icing on the cake. How they expected so many accounts to open when people didn’t need aerial equipment in below zero and snowy conditions. Wisconsin branch is horrible, horrible horrible. I would give a 1/2 star if I could

Pros

Ahern owns their own manufacturing company for equipment

Cons

Can’t seem to ever have parts on hand and ordering them is a hassle. Upper management doesn’t take advice or intergrate that info into what is happening
