Fast-growing, results-driven fintech with room for improvement
Pros
I've been with Airwallex for a little over two years now, and have seen the Singapore office expand and thrive. Pros of working at Airwallex include: 1) Ownership - full stop. You are staffed on multiple projects at once and expected to deliver business results. Everyone has an "IC portion" to their job; it's not the culture where senior leaders can just push paper and ask the juniors to do all the work. 2) Fast pace, which leads to projects getting accomplished in a timely manner. It's not an environment where slackers can coast on by, which is a breath of fresh air from other tech companies. 3) Global in nature - the Singapore office is very diverse and has team members from across Southeast Asia, China, Europe, Americas, etc. I like that my colleagues are truly global, as that brings diverse perspectives to the work.
Cons
Airwallex has two areas for improvement: 1) Most Asia offices now require five days in office, when Europe and the Americas are hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days WFH). The inconsistency is very frustrating, and fairly demoralising, given the strict attendance tracking and threats of punishment for even 1 missed day a week in Asia (e.g., loss of bonus, PIP, eventual termination, etc.). 2) Jack and the leadership team are sprinting a million miles a minute, trying to tackle so much, from international expansion to building stablecoins, obtaining a potential banking license to become a bank, and an eventual IPO. I urge leadership to prioritise and focus the team's efforts more - know what you are and what you aren't, don't try to be a fintech that solves every problem and provides an attempt at every solution. You may just end up a "jack of all trades but a master of none".
