Pros

The main pro is that the company pays well and you are likely to work with very intelligent people. You will learn new skills while you're there.

Cons

The company is having growing pains. Most of the people there are the ones that held on through the dotcom burst. While that makes them very engaged in the success of the company it also make it very clicky... and tough to be a new person. For at tech company they're surprisingly uptight and have a generally tough culture.

Pros

A company of innovation and pioneering. Stability. As long as the internet exists, so too will the need for Akamai's services. Excellent work-life benefits, unlimited vacation policy, ability to work from home. Having a technologist and the co-founder as the new CEO shows how important it is to have someone at the top who really understands the company.

Cons

As other reviews have pointed out, it's true that this is a political organization the further to the top you get. I actually don't think Tom Leighton is part of it, but certainly beneath him there's lots of politics going on. It takes a long time for change to happen. In certain departments the stress levels are brutal. In the Cambridge location, there's really not much "culture" i.e. colleagues getting together after work, drinks on Fridays, etc. That doesn't really happen on the East Coast the way it does at the West Coast offices. Wish that would become something that happened more often here with the support of upper management.

Pros

The company seems to have a good footprint in the content/web acceleration space. they value everyone's opinion.

Cons

Very political for the size of company, takes a longtime to get consensus to move the needle.
