Pros

9/80 schedule, if you are mechanical savvy then this place line of work is not that hard to comprehend. If you can read map and instructions than you shoudn't have issue.

Cons

Too many insider political correct individual. If you don't know anybody in this company than most likely you are contractor unless you are super smart than Alcon will hire you. Manager, Supervisor, Lead not friendly or approachable. Very rare to fine a good Manager, Supervisor, or Lead who understand and be compassionate.

Pros

The benefits are good. Plenty of time off and you're not going to be doing too much back breaking work. I was paid for COVID-19 even when I was waiting on my test results. With overtime you can make some pretty big checks. If you want to be successful here keep your machine running as much as possible. Befriend everyone because they will cover you when you go on breaks.

Cons

My job was a long 12 hour shift and they expected a 30 minute break along with two 15 minutes. Keep in mind it takes about 7 minutes just to enter/leave the building. I know the machines must be watched constantly but this is just absurd. Most people do not follow this rule (including management), but every now and then they will watch when you leave - be warned. In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, a construction project was approved that forced us all to enter through a narrow hallway. This was no excuse to be late to the floor. I literally had to shimmy against people everyday, so no wonder I tested positive. Lastly, the training department does not do a good job. You can outright make a 0% on the training test and still be allowed to look after a machine by yourself. Many times I've had to re-train newcomers on basic concepts that made it feel like I was working a 2-man job by myself. Management will not help you learn and grow. If something major happens, they would rather fix it themselves and complain about it later. At one point I was reading official documents on procedures in my job description. However, management still believed it was their task to do my job and "keep us stupid". I was being paid extra just to lose brain cells overnight.
