Pros

Genuinely friendly, helpful, enthusiastic colleagues who actually care about properly building and testing a functioning, secure, high-quality, useful product. I mention this because it's absurdly difficult to find a tech company that wants to create durable software or follow best practices. We don't get everything right, but suggestions for improvement are actively solicited, and I have never been reprimanded for submitting a bug fix, mentioning tech debt in a planning/refinement/grooming meeting, or filing an improvement story. Yes, there are software companies that will reprimand you for noticing that improvement is possible! AllClear ID is different. Most people here have read the Google SRE book, or at least some chapters from it, or they independently follow conversations in the software community about best practices regarding design, architecture, CI/CD, alerting & monitoring, performance testing, you name it. It's really cool to work in a place where you can improve the codebase openly, with support, encouragement, and resources, rather than in fear and in secret.

Cons

The company is small right now. On the CrossChannel side, we have fewer than 10 engineers, only 2 product owners, and only 1 project manager. There is an ambitious roadmap ahead and a deep backlog. If you join the team, you may be asked to take on non-engineering roles and tasks such as running client meetings, demo-ing to prospects, technical writing, making wireframes, and designing user experiences. It's a great environment for learning new skills quickly and stretching yourself, but if you're just not in a place right now where you can sink in that extra time and energy, then this will not be a good fit for you. And that is totally okay! Do come work with us when you're ready, though! :)

Pros

I work with a company full of caring, creative, brilliant people who put their heart and soul into everything they do including reimagining the way society authenticates and authorizes transactions in the banking, healthcare, and retail industries. As a full stack developer with a front end focus, I use cutting-edge technologies including React, Material UI, Flutter, and Adobe XD daily. I also get to work on other backend services and infrastructure (Kubernetes, Docker, Google Cloud Platform), which is pretty tubular. Engineers here have a collaborative mindset, are quite brilliant, operate as one, inspire one another to win, and love doing what engineers do best--building things. I feel the work-from-home days are entirely flexible and there's a lot of days I'll say something like I'm WFS (working from Starbucks) with no issues. That being said, integrity is paramount and are expected to come into the office and, I mean, collaborate with yo' teammates. We have offsite events at Urban Axes, Top Golf, K1 Speed, Blazer Tag, and more. We do happy hours all the time and we rotate on trips to Norway for weeks at a time. And we also attend conferences like Google Cloud Next out in Cali. I really think we have fun together as a company and take time to celebrate! Hallelujah! We get snacks! Chocolate muffins, Cheetos, Coca-Cola, Topo Chico, and loads of cheeses to name just a few of my favorites. And we also have this great, big automatic coffee machine that makes, um, coffee. I only drink about 10000 cups a day.

Cons

Our Austin office is in the heart of downtown. If you live in the outlying areas, your commute may be long during rush hour. In reference to the Lean Startup by Eric Ries and as part of our new direction, we had to pivot to a new venture and there was a bit of instability half a year ago or so. That being said, we now have our feet on the ground and are running forward with the new vision. It's funny because I came from a Fortune 50 company (HP) that had these sorts of issues and worse. We're in the early stage of our new product (AllClear ID CrossChannel™) within a startup-esque atmosphere. There's this idea of cross-functional roles which may be a turnoff to those that just want to stay specialized or stick with what they've been doing forever. For now, we operate within a financial runway (quite a bit of runway though) which can be potentially nerve-wracking.
