Pros

On the surface, it looks like an ok place to put on your resume. However, they oversell this and the reality is that it's not what it used to be. In the 80s/90s, the myth is that Bernstein carried a good reputation. These days that's unclear at best.

Cons

Too many to count, though will try to note some of the main ones. Generally, if you have any other remotely close option, or care about your mental health, do not take a job here. - Majority of people hate their job - the Associate role is a revolving door. Most everyone is either planning their exit strategy or has recently started. After about 6 months, most people start looking for other options, then leave once they can. - Unhealthy work culture - office politics determines success. Performance is based on gossip (getting one person to tell another person to tell another person that you're doing a good job) rather than anything substantial - Management is bad. Middle managers are simply the individuals who were Associates and never left. They have minimal experience managing others, and their goal is to look out for themselves (often at your expense) - Horrible job at creating an environment where you can learn. They throw you into a role without proper training, and then punish you for any mistake made. If you make 3, general policy is that you will get fired - Compensation: lower than industry average. When factoring in the hours, this drops even more. They try to tell you that you are being compensated in part through great "training and skills"

Pros

If you have no industry experience, it is a great place to get some exposure. The training program is great for someone straight out of college (just be prepared to drink the koolaid).

Cons

Best place to start is to state the fact that there have been a total of 9 people who have quit over the past year alone. To put that into perspective this is in an office that has 7-8 total support staff. Do not let management trick you and say that the associate role is "what you make it". You are an admin who will spend your days doing things such as prefilling documents, opening accounts, scanning and inputting information, processing wire transfers. Things that all other reputable Wall Street firms outsource or have a streamlined process for. Be prepared to work 60+ hour work weeks while coming in on Saturday and Sunday (this is the expectation and is not an exaggeration). Be prepared to be scrutinized for leaving at 5. All the while you are not an overtime eligible employee. If you have any industry experience DO NOT work here. I have never witnessed or experienced a more toxic environment in my entire life. Senior management continues to let the advisors run wild and do whatever they please. While this is not all to uncommon in wealth management, the advisors in the denver office take it to a whole new level. The job market is tough in Denver, but believe me when I say to keep searching and don't settle for working here.

Pros

Bernstein's investment research & institutional sales are best on the Street. Smart, ambitious people, good, eat-what-you-kill compensation at most senior levels.

Cons

Post-M&A activity, the preeminence of Sanford Bernstein's name & research suffered. Unfortunately, the unhealthy culture remains. Discrimination, sexism, insider mentality, unethical managers and poor leadership all explain why attrition rates are so high. Employee satisfaction couldn't be lower. For those who have left, the PTSD from working at the company will continue for years to come.
