      AltaMed: A Culture of Heart

      Pros

      The best thing about working at AltaMed is its incredibly culture of heart, diversity and service to underserved communities. And their commitment to workforce development is unparalleled in my long corporate career. A large part of this is its CEO, Castulo de la Rocha, who is an amazing visionary and heart-centered and fair CEO. When asked, over my last 40-year career which was the best corporate culture I have worked for, I'd have to say AltaMed because of the leadership, the culture, the diversity, the people and the commitment to serving underserved communities. It doesn't get much better than that!

      Cons

      AltaMed is an organization that grew very quickly and continues to build its sea legs. Like any fast-growth company, sometimes it felt like changing the tires of the car while going 100 miles an hour. Sometimes it was chaotic but chaos is a function of creativity and if you don't have it, then you're not really up to building anything too breakthrough - and AltaMed is. For me, it was an incredibly exciting ride and I know continues to be for many of my colleagues still at AltaMed. I did not mind the chaos - I enjoyed it and saw it as part of the creative process. I miss AltaMed and its culture and people, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to join a healthcare organization that has a visionary CEO and cares about culture and serving the underserved.
