Pros

- Company is willing to invest in your development as a professional - Benefits are very competitive - Work varies across projects and offers unique opportunities to learn

Cons

- Engineers are made to rotate contracts too frequently sometimes, need to focus on giving engineers time to understand applications and make an impact - Contract parameters are not always crystal clear, more resources need to be distributed to familiarize employees with their assigned contract and current effort

Pros

- You'll have opportunities to get experience with all parts of a software project ( if you want it ), from proposal to requirements gathering, and then implementation, delivery, and eventually the operations & maintenance tail. - Company paid insurance is great & they have a solid 401k where you're vested immediately ( none of the waiting periods some other local employers have ) - Tech stipends to get training materials/renew certifications/etc - HR team was *extremely* responsive whenever I emailed them. - Office culture was fairly relaxed in Fairborn - Some managers will make a concerted effort to find their people relevant work on other contracts when a contract ends or gaps before renewal - At corp level, recent acquistions have opened a *vast* amount of opportunities at customers where Altamira didn't previously have a presence.

Cons

- Effective compensation isn't terribly competitive with other local firms for equivalent roles ( One of my offers when I left would have been an effective 15% raise to go to a non-defense firm. ) - Management has a track record of ignoring developer preferences/career goals when staffing projects. - The Fairborn office is heavily dependent on a single customer, with a limited scope of available work -- which can put people with niche skills in unfortunate situations where they wind up covering on contracts outside their core skillset. - IRAD activity was seemingly nonexistent. ( Without IRAD activity, you're not going to keep the smart devs engaged and "happy" while you have them covering on projects they wouldn't have applied for otherwise. )
