Pros

If you're lucky enough to work in the office (as opposed to customer site where you have no windows, and may not even have your own desk) then they will give you some snacks most days. They usually have lots of cheese sticks. So it's a good place to work if you really, really like cheese.

Cons

Management - has gotten worse over the years. Very short term thinkers. The focus now is on pleasing the "investors". Since they are not getting contracts consistently these days (now they have some real competition) they are always looking for reasons to let people go. And then when they do win something they complain that they don't have the staff to support the contract. Security - even though your job relies on getting and maintaining a clearance, security personnel do not help you much unless you play golf with them. I'm not joking. Compensation - pay is far below industry norms. They used to have good benefits but they are being gradually reduced, and do not even come close to making up for the low pay, in my opinion. HR - do not go to them for help. They don't want to help you and anything you tell them may be used against you later. You know what? I'm sick of thinking about Altamira. Let's just say you can't throw a rock in the Dayton area without hitting a defense contractor that's going to be a better place to work than Altamira. But read some more reviews and decide for yourself. Don't give too much weight to the ones that were clearly written by management.

Pros

- You'll have opportunities to get experience with all parts of a software project ( if you want it ), from proposal to requirements gathering, and then implementation, delivery, and eventually the operations & maintenance tail. - Company paid insurance is great & they have a solid 401k where you're vested immediately ( none of the waiting periods some other local employers have ) - Tech stipends to get training materials/renew certifications/etc - HR team was *extremely* responsive whenever I emailed them. - Office culture was fairly relaxed in Fairborn - Some managers will make a concerted effort to find their people relevant work on other contracts when a contract ends or gaps before renewal - At corp level, recent acquistions have opened a *vast* amount of opportunities at customers where Altamira didn't previously have a presence.

Cons

- Effective compensation isn't terribly competitive with other local firms for equivalent roles ( One of my offers when I left would have been an effective 15% raise to go to a non-defense firm. ) - Management has a track record of ignoring developer preferences/career goals when staffing projects. - The Fairborn office is heavily dependent on a single customer, with a limited scope of available work -- which can put people with niche skills in unfortunate situations where they wind up covering on contracts outside their core skillset. - IRAD activity was seemingly nonexistent. ( Without IRAD activity, you're not going to keep the smart devs engaged and "happy" while you have them covering on projects they wouldn't have applied for otherwise. )
