Pros

Work life balance, employee discount

Cons

I worked at Altar’d State for a little under a month, and unfortunately it became clear very quickly that this was not a good fit due to the work environment and management style. I was very transparent in my multiple interviews, and expressed that I was looking for a retail home that not only thrived on the presentation of the store but also deeply desired an experienced and passionate person with a focus on elevation and creativity. I also expressed how important it was that I find a relaxed yet professional work environment with less micro-management and more clear communication and trust of my skills and leadership. Training was extremely limited and disorganized. Expectations were high from day one, yet there was little guidance or support to help new employees succeed. When questions were asked, responses often felt dismissive rather than helpful. Also, management seemed more invested in their ego and need to prove that they were more knowledgeable, than open to feedback and new ideas. The workplace culture did not feel as positive or supportive as the company presents publicly. Coworkers and management didn't respond well to someone with a positive attitude and seemed annoyed by a simple "Good Morning". There was a strong emphasis on appearance and performance, but not much consideration for employee well-being or realistic onboarding. Communication was inconsistent, and scheduling felt chaotic for new hires. I ultimately chose to leave because I did not feel valued or supported, and I did not see the environment improving with time. While the clothing and store aesthetic are appealing, behind the scenes the experience was stressful and discouraging, I would not recommend this position to someone looking for a supportive, well-structured retail job—especially if you are expecting thorough training.
