Pros

The intensity of this job actually helped me think more on the spot and become calmer in urgent situations. I learned how to deal with hard customers and conflict within the team. Good or not, at least I had some personal growth!

Cons

I personally have worked retail for years, so it's hard for me to hate a job when they typically have the same issues. However, all the issues of this job are entirely controllable. This was my first leadership role and I was essentially given no guidance, growth, or advice from my upper management and was silently judged and criticized behind my back as they expected me to read their mind. It was always a back and forth and I consistently would hear from others that they were calling me expletives in the office if I ever called out or did something they didn't like. Yes, they would do this in front of associates to the point where I would have to later hear it from the team members I was supposed to be leading. There was also an issue of the store manager calling an 18 year old associate an expletive and saying inappropriate things about them because of an availability change. Essentially these people had no emotional control and then would say "you should've just came to them" when you yourself had an issue. I also received a workplace injury out of my control that has led to longterm effects and it was after this that I really felt ostracized. They cut my hours despite me being full-time and I was essentially told they wanted to fire me but had no actual reason to, so I left on my own accord. I couldn't even finish my two weeks because they consistently were talking about me and made me uncomfortable to the point where I was having anxiety attacks. I'm not the only manager this has happened to here, and if it isn't me, it'll be someone else with this specific store manager. Look at the turnover rate.
