Like an abusive relationship

Pros

Made friends from my peer group

Cons

This company looks all pretty & shiny when you first start but you soon realize how it is rotting from the core, and by core I mean CEO. The only way this company is still around us because it is still private; no investors in their right minds would ever let a man child run a company like the way this CEO does. If you are okay getting yelled & screamed at one week and then the next week getting an edible arrangement saying how much you are appreciated during a floorset week, then by all means, enjoy being in this mentally abusive relationship. HR & people development just sit by & watch the verbal abusive occur. For a company that claims to live by the inverted pyramid, it is partly true. They truly only care about the guest because at the end of the day it’s all about the profit. HR once told me that they forgot about a call to the anonymous hotline & it took weeks to hear back about HR issues going on in my store. I have personally heard people development talk negatively about another store manager & how they do not belong in the brand because of how this manager dressed. The is not a Great Place to Work as they claim. Take the positive reviews with a grain of salt; these associates are told to only write positive reviews or put positive postings on social. Case in point was the recent mass postings (all on the same day) regarding the DM/SM Summit meeting that will be held at the Four Seasons in Vail. Why not use this huge cost to give more payroll, or buy better quality clothes to sell, or get store printers/walkies/phones/internet connection that actually work? The real reason is so stores “can see what real service is like” since according to the CEO, stores have done nothing for the guest in the past three years. “Anonymous” surveys are sent out randomly through out the year; this usually precedes a mass firing as directed from the CEO since he likes to get on his soap box during company calls (while spitting his chew in his styrofoam cup for all to see; classy) & to make his point very clear that he controls everything & everyone is at fault except himself. Ask yourself why do the associates that are let go need to sign NDA’s & why do they get a severance? Where there is smoke, there is fire. Still don’t believe me...just take a look at all the job openings on the career site; the number is astonishing & grows larger by the day.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We recognize that our organization has very high performance standards, and we understand that not everyone will thrive in such an environment. We live by the Inverted Pyramid, with our guests at the top of the Pyramid. We must take great care of the guest for our associates to thrive and to enable us to give back to those in need. In order to continue creating rewarding opportunities for thousands of associates, we have to be great at what we do – and always remain committed to continuous and constant improvement. This calls for a culture of direct and honest feedback, and we know that some team members may struggle to accept this feedback. To help set a good example for being receptive to feedback, we do surveys several times a year that are open to all associates. They are anonymous to help everyone feel comfortable sharing their thoughts. We have found the vast majority of our associates embrace our high-performance expectations and our surveys reflect a highly engaged team of dedicated associates. Our most recent survey indicated that 89% of our associates feel loved and appreciated, 86% agree that someone at work encourages their development, and 89% agree that their direct supervisor, or someone else at work, cares about them as a person. On our most recent Great Place to Work® survey in July, 94% of associates at Altar'd State say it is a great place to work compared to 59% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company. When our team offers up suggestions for improvement, we always address it with a new solution or, at the very least, an explanation of why we cannot do so at this time. Feedback from our associates has led to dozens of positive changes and programs over the past few years, including increased compensation for all store associates, increased Paid Holiday and other improved Paid Time Off benefits, 14 week Paid Maternity Leave, company contributions to HSA accounts, and free access to mental health professionals. We will continue to look for ways to improve the experience we provide to our team, just as we continue to provide all associates with feedback about their contributions and overall performance. We are incredibly grateful for the thousands of associates that work hard every day to make this environment possible, and are committed to delivering on the high expectations we have for serving our guests. We sincerely hope that you’ve found somewhere to work that you love, and that you’ll cheer on your friends that are still a part of our team as they continue to do the work necessary to build something truly special for themselves, their guests and their fellow associates.

Poorly ran company

Pros

I wish I had some pros to mentioned.

Cons

The company treats the staff horribly. It has no structure what so ever. The store culture is gossip, gossip, gossip! It needs a revamp, and needs to hire a new team for in store experience. Upper management is horrible. I can say a lot but I’m being nice. God bless those that stay with the company. I must say this is probably the worst company I’ve ever worked for.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We regularly reach out to get input from all of our associates, from all store teams and departments throughout our company. Many of the benefits we offer today including Paid Sabbaticals, 14 Weeks of Paid Maternity Leave, and our industry-leading pay rates are a direct result of the feedback shared by our associates. We are indeed a people-first company, and we remain committed to providing the best possible working environment for our associates. Do not work here

Business Outlook

Pros

Give back company and that’s it.

Cons

Do not work here. Run away fast. This company will preach to you about positivity and focusing on your people and then turn around and gaslight, manipulate, and lie to you. They will work your soul down until you are a robot and if you don’t conform or have different ideas about how to run things, they will get rid of you. Do not be fooled by the beautiful storefront and fake positive reviews. Working here was equivalent to being in a toxic relationship. The minute you enter this company, you will be in purgatory.
