Pros

Great place to learn how to solve complex problems on the fly. Had the opportunity to learn a lot more about my particular field at a deeply technical level. You have a very good opportunity to wear different hats as far as technical, leadership, etc. and have your work become visible at a high level.

Cons

Schedules can be chaotic and it is common to change direction midway through a project.
