Pros

Get exposure to all areas of application and software development Opportunity to transfer to other teams across the world and business

Cons

Performance reviews (Forte) are insufferable. I still don’t know how they determine compensation increases There is a reorganization every 6 to 12 months. If you’re unfortunate and get moved around, your prospects of promotion basically disappear Most of talented engineers and managers have left. Morale is dead because you’re stuck working with people who have no better choice or are indoctrinated by Amazon groupthink

Pros

Amazon really varies from org to org, think about it as several smaller companies within a single one. Now that I’ve left, I really appreciate the processes and SOPs Amazon has in place for projects starts, technical design, incident response, promotions, etc. It’s much easier to get things done/achieve your goals when you speak the same language with the people around you in that sense.

Cons

You get used to internal tooling and processes and might find it hard to adjust to a new role.
