Clear goals, clear expectations, emphasis on communication and leadership principles. Everyone has awareness proper software engineering practices. Work with really sharp people

Cons

Be everything at all times and deliver everything fast. Responsibilities, particularly oncall, vary strongly between teams. Culture can be a bit cold.

Pros

GREAT things about Amazon: - Widest employee diversity I've ever seen and amazing people. - Takes on all immigration-related matters for free. GREAT for immigrating into a country. - Competitive salary. - Good initial signing bonus and relocation lump sum package. - Strives to achieve excellence in the software development practices and excellence is encouraged. - Very DevOps like and allows for quick development compared to traditional companies (don't know about comparison with Google/Facebook, other tech giants) - Most people are strong professionals in their area of knowledge. - Everybody loves learning and are quick learners. - Comfy office with all supplements needed for working. - Everybody is hard working

Cons

- From time to time can become very demanding and objectives are always set higher than what physically can be done in a time, and used as a performance measurement. - Depending on the project, one can end up being in a very boring one. - Competitive landscape for career growth, but opportunities for everyone. - Has a few technologies that are unique to Amazon and won't serve anywhere outside, however, conceptually you can call this a PRO. - Since most of the team works really hard (extra hours), then, the performance is expected to be on the same level, setting the bar really high and affecting work-life balance considerably. No compensations whatsoever other than "sorry". Extra hours are not recorded anywhere.
