It's a job

Pros

You have a really understanding team, which is nice when every day is as different as they are. It's really rewarding with some of the guests that stay there.

Cons

For the amount of work that you do, the pay isn't very good at all. Not many opportunities to move up in the position. 8 hour shifts can be pretty exhausting, especially working by yourself and not getting a chance to leave the property for food.

Pros

The salary was competitive given my limited experience. Training resources and tools were always made readily available. The company uses a strengths and weakness finder tool for its GM's and then allows them the freedom and empowers them to pick and build their own staff around their own needs allowing them time to focus and perform on their areas of strength. The brand standards are flexible enough to allow each hotel to operate to its own unique style and achieve maximum profitability.

Cons

In the GM role there are a lot of hours in order to be successful. In some markets recruiting and retaining an adequate staff can be challenging. The company does not currently require a DOS as part of its brand standard but in some markets this would prove both profitable and helpful.
