Pros

Outstanding company with brand that I am proud of and use myself. Easy to explain where I work and what I do Good work life balance but be careful...

Cons

Even though their best customers are over 45 years old, Amex is very focused on youth when it comes to it's employees. Amex does not value real experience in it's work force. It' nearly impossible to find a upper middle manager (AKA Band 45 VP) that became a VP after age 35. Most experienced employees are pushed aside after a certain age regardless of how successful and award winning they have been to make room for the next generation. So don't stay too long. If you miss more than two opportunities to get promoted it's time to leave.

Pros

Great Company for personal development, training and growth if you are in the right division with the right manager. Company has a great reputation as a fortune 500 organization.

Cons

Limited mobility due constant downsizing, really low compensation package compared to industry standards. American Express will not promote from within and offer appropriate compensation.

Pros

Band 25s are generally pleasnt to work with despite sorry leadership

Cons

Too many to list. My biggest issue with AMEX is the fact that leadership is pretty much incompetent due to the fact that the trickle down theory of surrounding yourself with incompetent yes people that kiss your ass is pretty much the norm. Example SDL's that knowingly hire or promote people with a shaky integrity reputation just to make themselves look good and are not bright enough to not contradict the falsehoods that they stated previously.
