American Greetings will send pallets full of boxes to your store--in this case Walmart--and complain if you can't put them all away in the few hours they give you for that week. Essentially, you have to beg them for enough hours to get the job done, all while hearing from AG management that you need to do your best to keep your hours below a certain threshold. You are set up to fail. Here's an example: in a typical week toward the end of my tenure with AG, I was given six working hours to shelve eleven boxes of cards--which take 45 minutes to one hour per box to complete--and a pallet-full of bags, tissue paper, and roll wrap. Each of these sorts of boxes takes about 20 minutes to shelve. In addition, one is supposed to keep the AG area in the store neat and organized, a task that takes about 1.5 hours to complete upon one's arrival in the store after a busy weekend when Walmart shoppers have been tossing your product to and fro. Also, it takes time to wrangle the boxes off the shelves where they're stored in the back of the store, and then, when all is done, to take the trash to the back of the store and dispose of it. Do the math regarding these tasks and expectations. Six hours? It would take more like fifteen to twenty. It doesn't add up, does it?
