Pros

Overall, I loved my time at AIL. It was my first real job and my first experience in the insurance world. I had a great manager and a great team to work for who pushed me in the ways I needed to be pushed in order to get my job done. I was supported in my endeavors and there was always someone around to help me when I needed it. If I had a question from a client that I wasn't sure I could answer myself, I was always able to find a manager who could help out. The training process is short with the idea to get you out and making your own appointments and make money on your own. Leads are provided as well. This is huge because a lot of companies will make you pay for leads on your own, whereas with AIL, they're provided to you as a part of your contract. However, the expectation is that you will bring in a lot of new referrals. It's a fast paced, aggressive environment that works for those who like to hustle and are good at it. As long as you do what it takes to get to the next level, you'll be able to get there. There's a lot of room for growth and improvement and an unlimited earnings potential.

Cons

The hours are incredibly long. I was given the impression that as an independent contractor, I could work when I wanted to. Unfortunately, you're really an independent contractor in name only so you should expect to be putting in a ton of hours each week. Weekends are especially important. This is a 7 day a week job and there's no way around that. I put in a ton of hours and didn't really see much in the way of reward. As hard as I worked, this is a numbers business and it doesn't really matter the reason behind your numbers. If you're not producing, you won't last. Also, make sure you have a lot of friends and family looking for life insurance. Those around you are your lifeline and you have to get referrals all the time. For every sale I made to a company provided lead, I was expected to get between 3 and 5 referrals that I could contact to generate new business. The commute was a hassle for me as well. I live 70 miles from the office I worked out of, and while I was only going in 3 times per week (much of the job can be done remotely), that gets to be a little tough. You need to put in the work, and I mean really put in the work. You should be expected to make between 300 and 500 phone calls per day and make at least 10 presentations per week. But like I said above, you can do all that but you need to sell to those clients. If you don't sell, all of that work is just you wasting time, and management will hound you for that because there are a lot of agents in the company who sell to a lot of clients without a lot of work. Work smarter not harder. Lastly, compensation is commission only.

Thank you for your review. We’re glad you benefited from our supportive management team and positive environment while at AIL but disappointed it wasn't a good long-term career fit. This position does require a sales-minded individual and isn't for everyone. However, with hard work and dedication, this can be an extremely productive career financially and personally. Thank you for your contribution to our AIL team and best wishes to you in the future.

Pros

You will learn plenty about sales, business, and what it takes to succeed.

Cons

I was expected to work everyday of the week. You will be subjected to countless meetings/training sessions that are mostly just pep talks and motivational videos. The job is fully commission based, so these meetings grew increasingly more agitating.
