Pros

The company promotes a positive work culture. Starting out, this is a great place to learn a lot about the tech industry and work with a variety of different roles to see what interests you most. The company does a lot of great marketing initiatives and is focused on growing their business in order to continue to provider positive job growth for employees. I made many friends within the office and enjoyed the team I worked on.

Cons

Depending on the team, it can be challenging to work downtown starting out if that is what you are interested in. Also training differs based on the team and wasn’t quite standardized. Some teams offer great onboarding and some throw you in with little resources which means as you work with other teams, different people of same role and level have different answers for the same information.

We appreciate you taking the time to complete your review. We thank you for the feedback and only wish you would have brought up these perceived issues while you were employed with us as we’d never tolerate a workplace that was anything but fair and equitable. Regarding turnover, the facts are completely contrary to your accusation. We're proud of the incredibly low employee turnover we have - well below industry average – as well as the diverse background of the many men and women who work here. If there was a shred of evidence to back up your baseless claims, we wouldn’t have over 100 staff members that have been with us for over 10 years. The company culture embedded within the organization is one of fairness and positivity. We wish you the best of luck in the future.

Pros

Pay is decent. The owners (and spouses) are friendly and approachable. Great place for an intern or first job. Nice co-workers who care. Great resume builder. Impressive TV commercials. There is an unusually large percentage of people who were hired because they are friends or relatives with someone who works here. This is a good sign, but it is awkward and sometimes uncomfortable because you never know who has a personal connection to someone else.

Cons

Management is mostly out of touch, but give the impression otherwise. Overly detailed and antiquated time tracking. I have never felt so 'watched'. Most people spend about 15-30 minutes each day entering their time, yet you are not allowed to put this time in your time sheet. Very few people take an hour lunch, go out to eat or spend time at the ping pong table. Everyone feels the pressure to keep their billable hours as high as possible. Management likes the open-office layout and brag about how clients rave about how nice the office looks (and they are correct - it looks really nice). But from a practical side, there are too many distractions and the noise level is high. People who concentrate and think for a living need privacy and quiet. Half the company is working on old technology and there is a resistance to investing in new technologies until there is a guaranteed payback (typically through a large client). Many managers routinely talk trash about the employees in private. I have and know of others who have been asked to do questionable and deceptive practices behind the customer's back. Not a place for people with experience. The happiest associates are the ones right out of school that don't know better (yet). The salesreps sign contracts that are either terribly vague or impossible for the Project Managers to deliver on time with quality. The PMs transfer the impossible to the Front and Back End Developers, who are overworked and stressed out. All this is then dumped on the QA team to sort out the inevitable mess. When it is all done, there is little to no documentation for the Account Manager during their effort to keep the client happy for the coming years. On the positive side, the company has become very good at delivering good websites to happy clients (by somehow, successfully adapting to the constant chaos). Expect to work very long hours at times with little or no compensation. I have seen or heard of several people who ended up sick or in the hospital after working several 60-80 hour weeks in a row. You might be able to work from home on occasion, but expect to be watched like a hawk and be prepared to prove in detail that you worked 8 hours. It's kind of funny, but I have heard many people say that they want to look for another job, but they don't have the time or energy by the time they get home.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your review. We appreciate the feedback and we’d be happy to discuss some of the concerns you’ve brought up as we continually look to improve upon our internal processes and ensure a rewarding work experience and the overall happiness of each employee. We’re glad you enjoy working with your colleagues. Our staff, working as a team, is what makes our company great, and it’s our goal to continue to onboard amazing team members to every department within the organization. We're proud of the extremely low employee turnover we have - well below industry average - as well as the number of clients we've had for multiple projects and redesigns (and years) - a true testament to the trust customers put, and continue to have, in Americaneagle.com. That strength comes from the fact that we have over 100 people that have been with us for over 10 years. 10 years ago we were only about 150-175 people strong, there is no Tech company that we know of with that type of stability. Regarding our time tracking measures, our goal is total transparency between clients and team members on time worked on the many hundreds of projects that we have in process. We have stressed numerous times that time tickets should be done at the exact time you finish the task, it is a complete waste of time to do that at the end of the day. We have incredible tools like our intranet and Jira that makes this extremely easy to do, this should not add additional unwarranted time to the end of the day. If you are still an employee within the company, we’d recommend that you meet with HR and discuss ways how you can better improve your time tracking so your time is efficiently spent. We’re constantly looking for ways to improve all of our overall business practices and welcome any ideas or suggestions you have. We value all skill levels at Americaneagle.com, if you’ve been with us a month, a year or ten years, we would love to hear from you. As you should know if you work here, the CEO and the President of the company both have an open door policy – a rarity in today’s business world. Our goal is to set up all of our teams to achieve success and have a rewarding career in this exciting industry. We wish you the best of luck and hope you realize your potential as well. It appears from your review that a different culture may be a better fit.
