Pros

Good 401K, great place to learn and start your career.

Cons

Agree with another review, Amgen used to be good, not anymore. The health insurance plan is worse and worse, premium goes up year by year, 2017 is a 38 dollars more / month compare to 2016. Amgen sent everyone a letter asking you to share more of their cost of the insurance plan---38 dollars more per month of whose salary is between 100,000 to 199,000. Even with this much premium, the deductible is 1500 dollars, without co-pay for anything, meaning you pay full with office visit. I visited doctor once this year, for something small, and paid 340 bucks in full. The insurance plan sucks now, but Amgen used to be good 5 years ago. With the new management team, new CEO, new CFO, Amgen cut off heavily in terms of employee benefits not only health insurance plan, for example, they cut off the expense on Xmas party, yes, you read it right, Amgen doesn't have a company wide Xmas party. Promotion here is another big issue, taking my department as an example, there is zero promotion to anyone in the past 10 years.

Horrible company culture

Pros

Interesting technology, the facility was well maintained, the introductory training was very thorough, there were a lot of "team building" events with good food and even beer, although it was awkward to attend those surrounded by people who were so anti-team mentality.

Cons

Long hours, thankless management, culture of disrespect. I relocated across the country to take a job there, and ended up resigning after one year. It was such an awkward place to work. It seemed that everyone was out to make each other look bad, not a team atmosphere at all. I've never had a problem getting along with coworkers, but there, every attempt to make conversation was met with hostility. I was then transferred to an even worse department after about 4 months. The supervisor would do things like try to write people up for taking a ten minute break to go eat a granola bar. This was a 12 hour shift with only one 30 minute break.

Pros

Amgen does incredible work in researching and creating therapies for grievous illness. The staff are committed to what they do.

Cons

CEO is a Wall Street guy and that's how the company is now being run. The tag line is "Every patient every time" - but is it really? Terrific research was being done at their Washington State sites, with many potential molecules for the pipeline, but Amgen shut those sites down. Selling the Helix Campus for $240 million (40 acres ON the waterfront of Seattle - state of the art research labs, which cost $630 million to build in the first place). Why? To please Wall Street and Shareholders.
