Pros

This is a stable company with a good set of values and a true mission statement. The promote from within mentality is refreshing and the financial strength of the company gives strong support that Amica is around for the long haul. The amount of vacation time is great as is the vast array of benefits including a pension.

Cons

It's difficult to rise up in the company at a rate that would satisfy some ambitious, hard working employees. Expertise, leadership, and experience brought into the company from outside sources don't necessarily hold much sway in how employees are evaluated. This is challenging because outside companies might value these attributes more than Amica even though they are applicable to Amica job functions.

Good. Not great.

Pros

Well run. Financially stable. Good work life balance in certain positions. Their claims adjusters and claims supervisors are overworked and overstressed. They have so much on their plate they can't help their direct reports in their personal and professional development as much.

Cons

Need to be part of the good boys club to excel. They look for a certain type of person to run their departments. Unless you fit that, you won't climb very far. Their relocation program is archaic. . Otherwise, if you want great opportunity you better be from New England/Mid Atlantic and have no problem living in Mass or RI.

Great company with great culture

Pros

Great company culture that focuses on customer service both internally and externally. High level executives are very accessible and interact with other employees of lower levels. Managers seem to truly want you to excel and have your best interest in mind.

Cons

Kind of "old school" in that it is every conservative. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something that some people might find less desirable than a newer, wear-jeans-to-work everyday type company.
