Don't work here

Pros

Atmosphere in the office was nice

Cons

Many cons from this company with high up and managers. NONE of them know what they're doing. I was never clear in my role or knew what my expectations were, because my manager never spoke to me or had a clue what I should be doing. They are constantly changing their minds on everything and don't stick to one plan and let it develop. This leads to panic and constant layoffs. They are great at spitting out nonsense and then wondering why were aren't getting results.

Leadership is MIA

Pros

Lots of great people. Meaningful work with a noble mission. Great work/life balance. Plenty of opportunity to grow and learn. The culture has improved significantly over the past two years. This would be the coolest place in the world to work if management would simply show up to the party.

Cons

Absolutely zero leadership. I have been in the industry for a very long time and have never witnessed such a complete void of any sort of leadership. It's not even fair to say "poor" leadership because there is literally no sign of it. Anywhere. Whatsoever. Joel pops his head in once or twice a year. Great guy with a meaningful vision but nowhere to be found. CTO Josh has been missing in action for months (does he still work here?) "One Amplify" was "announced" months ago and there has been no tangible follow through. Now it seems that we are on the auction block and still no sign of a leader as far as the eye can see. Are they all out on interviews?

Pros

- Amplify offers a decent starting salary as it has the financial backing of NewsCorp (don't expect a raise though). - There are still some people there that really care about doing quality work.

Cons

- No room for career growth (rampant cronyism, value in previous title - not ability). - Refers to itself internally as a startup without a hint of irony (Amplify is a business unit of NewsCorp) which leads to long hours without an equity package or a constructive, open culture. - Serious culture issues -- saying that you have a startup culture doesn't make it so. - Schizophrenic priorities as the company only seems to think one month out and doesn't value learning from mistakes. - So. many. meetings. - Negative feedback, even presented constructively, makes you a target. - High turnover and difficulty retaining qualified people (see above points).
