Pros

decent pay for no degree. best day of my life was last day at Amtrak. unfortunate it has the potential to be an outstanding company that could crush privately owned competitors and take back what they stole from Amtrak. Oakland Amtrak has the largest untapped potential of any local transportation agency.

Cons

many good workers carrying the load for craft frauds and most of management defies reason. they have a sue us then attitude. Management strategy is if they dont hate you you arent doing your job right. HR is a joke and support this mindset of management? oh, who appointed you again? safety is accomplished with smoke and mirrors. Management will screw you and say its for the operation. dont buy into the lie see something say something = blacklisted for life

Pros

Benefits are great Retirement is great Pay is great

Cons

Nepotism is the word of everyday. If you don't know someone it's near impossible to advance in a timely manner. Some management not suited to the job and poorly trained but jobs often awarded on name instead of merit. Forget having a social life if you're not management.

Pros

Based on the current direction of the company I cannot think of any. Maybe Rail Road Retirement but you can find that at any Class 1 RR

Cons

Management needs to stand up to the Unions. At best 20 hours of work might be done in a 60 hour work week. Yes guys are milking the system for 20 hours of OT every week. Speaking of the Unions they are toxic. It is split on a generational divide. The over 40 crowd is there to not work and the younger new hires are only in the Union because it's a closed shop. If they do not start working the current Administration with get rid of Long Distance and just keep the NEW because it's the only part of the business that generates a profit.
