Very clich-like as a young employee working with long-time employees. No matter how much I tried to join that collaborative energy I barely skimmed the surface over 3-4 months. Busser schedule is very inconsistent. Depending on the busyness of the night/a couple people continuing to chat & eat. You can work two hours more than expected and that is just base pay, because your not collecting tips cleaning/organizing the back rooms. Maybe it is just my personality, but hosting is a nightmare. Just as I finished learning to buss (where you actually make more money), they wanted to train me in hosting… For someone who really takes pride in doing my job correctly, the training felt rushed and in that - the whole experience felt terrible. When I failed often as I was learning (reasonably so), it turned my co-working hosts against me, because I was causing them more stress in an already high-stress job. I eventually communicated that I didn’t want to host at all. It is still weird to me that bussing is the entry level position, even though you make more then learning to host - which is required if you want to make your way up to serving.
