Great place to work a few years ago

Pros

Decent pay, great benefits, nice coworkers, the mission of higher education for working adults is a good one

Cons

I agree with many of the other reviews that a few years ago, it was a great place to work. But then the outsourcing and layoffs started. I saw some smart, hard-working people being "let go", people with mortgages and families to support. Now it's an environment of self preservation and constantly being afraid of being the next to be laid off. Morale is low which tends to zap people's motivation. In addition, another con is the university's bad reputation. With hard work and motivation, the quality of education is actually pretty good and it is NOT a diploma mill as some say. But, the perception and reputation is bad.

Pros

Helping veterans receive their education. Decent pay for the level of education required.

Cons

Opportunity to advance in veterans affairs department. Directors are biased and disrespectful You need to be somebody's friends on Facebook and go to their weekend barbeque to not be in the spot light of "so and so did something wrong" Very high school in the way things are addressed by management or directors Someone who sits down and does their work and doesn't socialize is reprimanded for being unapproachable yet someone who is talkative is unmotivated and unproductive. To avoid firing someone they make a situation more and more miserable until the person quits on their own instead.

Focus, Focus, Focus ... there is none

Pros

Decent compensation package - salary, vacation, health benefits, 401k.

Cons

Lack of sustained focus. Too many changes in leadership that have occurred too quickly. This has lead to numerous changes in corporate direction, multiple re-orgs (just for the sake of re-orgs).
