Pros

Almost everyone that works there is extremely smart and personable. The culture, although sometimes a bit high-schoolish, was typically young and vibrant.

Cons

Sales guys regularly oversold contracts, so consultants were always working under ludicrous deadlines. The technology was so buggy that it made everyone's life a nightmare. Some of the layers of management were just hangers-on from when the company was younger: no talent, but nobody wanted to fire them.

Pros

Opportunity. You can gain a lot of experience very quickly: both on client sites and also internally. Appian can be demanding but fair. I have learned a great deal and grown quickly as part of the Professional Services department. If you show good leadership, dependability, and competence Appian may allow you to make a permanent base in a non-office location. Without a doubt, and probably unparalleled benefit to working at Appian is the people. Appian has recruited some of the brightest and most personable people around.

Cons

Appian is definitely a full time job -- especially if you are on a demanding project. Top-level communication has some room to grow.

Pros

Your peers are very nice people. If there is one thing I can take about Appian is the friends I made there.

Cons

Everything else? Extremely long hours, it was common to work until 4 AM. No recognition on the things you do well, but you're punished for every stupid little mistake you make. There are no processes for anything, everything is a mess in the Engineering department. We always have to do last minute fixes and feature requests that the sales team sold. A few months ago they fired about a third of the workforce, including people that had been hired a month before. Management is the worst I've seen ever. They think they are God's gift to men, when they don't realize they have no people skills and no way of planning the correct product.
