Pros

Amazing people - always willing to help & most are passionate about what they do. Great product. perks like breakfast on Mondays, spring getaway are solid - not great compared to other software company perks.

Cons

Benefits package need to be updated. only 8 paid holidays - no floating holidays AND no sick leave (either WFH or take your PTO). Makes it seem like they don't trust their employees to use their sick leave responsibly. lacking compared to other companies. Get paid once a month also might've worked when it was 100-200 people, but now that it's a bigger company, needs to be updated. reston's location is not ideal, expect a long commute depending on where you live.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your experience with Appian and I'm happy to hear you recognize the quality of your colleagues. As my more frequent readers can attest, we welcome feedback on our benefits are always working on improving our benefits mix to improve life at Appian. I agree with you that the investments we make in our employees are not just the right thing to do, they are also good business. We are a bigger company now, and you'll see some of your complaints getting resolved soon. You don't need to wait for me to read the reviews on GlassDoor to help make Appian a better place -- if you have feedback on benefits, just tell me. Or if you're shy, send me a message on Home (our company Intranet built on our own software for you future employees). I do want to respond to your comments on training and sick leave vs. PTO. We investment a lot in employee training -- from our multi-week Academy when you start at Appian to the year-long Appian MBA Program for managers. And if you can't get the training you need from us directly we also offer a tuition reimbursement program. Ask your manager about it. To provide sick leave, Appian provides a bucket of PTO time for employees to use however they want or need -- for sick leave, vacation, shopping, anything. PTO is pretty standard practice. i hate the idea of employees questioning each other's use of sick leave -- that's one reason I prefer the PTO system. We don't take off every federal holiday -- that's true, we could always give more vacation. On the flip-side, we do reward employees with more PTO the longer they stay with us. Thanks!

Pros

Appian is an awesome, youthful company that offers a lot of opportunity for growth especially for recent graduates. Associate consultants are given a lot of responsibility developing client applications, and they can quickly participate on the client side with production support and requirements gathering. The people working here are definitely motivated and intelligent, and the company overall has a play-hard, work-hard culture. There is plenty of growth, so a good amount of upwards mobility, and a wide range of client projects to work on. I'm definitely grateful that I've had such a good experience right out of college.

Cons

-Their benefits are mediocre compared to some of the competitors (Deloitte, Accenture, etc.) -Turnover is relatively high in professional services, which can occasionally affect project morale

Thanks for taking the time out to share your experiences and your recommendation of Appian! I encourage you to send your benefits suggestions to Debbie or me directly -- we're always enhancing them. The new Appian MBA Program is just one recent example of how we are focused on retaining talent. While the PS turnover rate did tick up slightly to 7.3%, I have personally met with the project team you mentioned to help address their concerns. We take every departure seriously and treat them as an opportunity to improve our hiring, training, and the entire Appian experience.
