Pros

Good people to work with on a day to day basis. Company focuses on a single platform/product line so there is strong alignment across the firm. There is always competition for priorities, but much less so than software firms with many different products. Appian's product is built from ground-up rather than bolt-on acquisitions.

Cons

Low company profile. Hidden gem, but it means you often need to explain more to your friends/family about where you work as the name recognition is not there.

Thank you for the feedback and constructive criticism! I agree we are a hidden gem and am working with our marketing team and founders to build a stronger employment brand in the DC area and globally. Look for some new content in 2017 that talks in more detail about our values, culture and what it is like to work at Appian.

Pros

The employees are all friendly and helpful. It's a very forgiving place to have your first or second internship. The company is growing really quickly, so it's an exciting time.

Cons

I didn't like GWT, which is what I used almost exclusively for development during my internship.

Thank you for taking time out to provide your feedback. We used to use GWT to enable us to leverage Java's strengths in managing diverse Javascript UI's. I'm sorry to hear you didn't like working with GWT but future interns will be happy to hear we are replacing it with ReactJS.

Pros

Appian allows anyone to have an idea. And if it is a good idea it will succeed. If you want to see change, be the change. Even the newest employees's insight is respected. Work life balance is great. Appian provides many opportunities to advance and improve. If you prove yourself you will be promoted. Appian loves to promote from within.

Cons

The benefits aren't great. It is hard to convice senior engineers to join because they can larger annual bonuses, better 401k, and work from home else where

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are always improving benefits and appreciate your suggestions on how to improve life at Appian. We did just improve the 401k matching formula in 2015 -- but we can always do more. As for working from home, I don't think there's one right answer. We try to focus more on creating a compelling and collaborative office environment with the right mix of senior and junior talent. That's just hard to do with a remote workforce but I'd be happy to listen to your ideas. Thanks again for your feedback and all your hard work.
