Pros

Its a lenient job that's perfect for those looking only for part time. There's the possibility of making more than minimum wage depending on your tips. Good people skills and how to handle a customer are developed.

Cons

It can be a draining job when waiting on grumpy or mean people, it just depends on the day.

Pros

Great people, made a lot of great friends here, can make a lot of money while in school, they will work around your class schedule

Cons

management does not know how to order the appropriate amount of inventory or prep the appropriate amount of food in the morning to get through the shift, management keeps too many servers on when we are slow, but then cuts the floor for our half-price happy hour where cheap customers come in and trash the place, rarely will the management help out without their horns coming out and being absolute jerks to the employees while it gets busy, the customer is always right means that the employee is always wrong...every time, get ready to get your job threatened every day if the management does not meet their 'flavor-of-the-week' goals that are in place by the upper management, the franchise owners also decided that it would be beneficial to lower the wages of the to-go people and the hosts and make the servers pay their difference through a tip-out of total sales (required mind you)...oh wait, and the to-go person doesn't get a share of the tip out even though their wages have been docked there is too much negative to put it all, good thing I make more money here than I would at an hourly job otherwise, I would leave

Pros

Fast money, some good coworkers, work as much or as little as you would like, I was able to have visible tattoos and piercings, the menu is very easy to learn.

Cons

I worked at 2 different Applebees. You WILL work 10-15 hour shifts DAILY unless you give them limited availability. Side work takes at least 1-2 hours to complete, and you will also have running side work through the shift. You will either have an amazing manager or a horrible one and that will be what makes or breaks you that day. They pay you very low but expect you to bust your butt, examples are the side work is crushing and there are no bussers except for when the hosts feel like doing it. So while you are trying to give great service, run side work, run food, prepare soups and desserts... you are expected to keep your section sparkling!! Do not even get me started on those stupid surveys, they will push them so hard on you, and if you do not get enough they will threaten you with your job. I ended up printing additional receipts and having my friends do them so I could keep my job. I did try to have customers do them but who wants to take a survey after eating, I know I would also forget about it as soon as I left the place. Oh, and I do not know what it is about this place but it attracts the trashiest crowd I have ever seen. If you do not believe me go to an Applebees after 10 and look around. This also means less tips. Another thing, whatever the customer says is LAW!!! If a customer says to a manager to fire an employee they will do it no questions asked, I have seen it. If you have an extremely picky customer that complains about everything whether the complaints are legit or not you will not hear the end of it. Trust me if you have served you know some people cannot be pleased and this company does not get that. If you are reading this, unless you absolutely have to, DO NOT apply here! Awful company who does not are at all about the employees.
